SIGIL ETYMOLOGY
from the Latin word "sigillum," meaning "little sign"
SIGIL MEANING
Sigils represent energy and can represent a desire, an intention, an archetype, or even a loved one.
HISTORY OF SIGILS
Like many ancient practices, we don't know the true origin of sigils. We know that individuals worked with sigils in Medieval times to indicate the names of angels. There is even pictorial evidence from as early as the 1600s of sigils being used to call in astrological energies.
In the early 1900s, an esoteric artist named Austin Osman Spare developed and popularized the method of creating sigils to represent intentions. He also designed the sigil creation process we use in our Sigil Signets.

HOW TO MAKE A SIGIL
There are many ways for an artist to create a sigil. We use the method popularized by Spare, which is to write out the intention, cross out the vowels and any repeating consonants, and create a symbol with the remaining letters. This abstract symbol now holds the original purpose of the intent. Read more about our process here.

HOW DO SIGILS WORK?
The sigil is a visual reminder to embody or connect to the energy it represents. By changing our mindset and actions, we change our reality. Think of it as connecting more deeply to a specific intention, archetype, or loved one.
When we say, "We make our own magic," we don't mean that change happens out of nowhere; what we mean is that we can create the reality we wish to cultivate, with each action, each habit, one choice at a time. By wearing physical reminders of our intentions, we take concrete steps to create the change we crave. Change your energy to change your actions. Change your actions to change your reality.
OUR SIGILS
We create all of the sigils that you see on our website. Currently, all of the sigils in our library represent collective intentions. However, we can create for you a custom sigil to depict your unique intention, your loved one, or the archetypal energy you wish to embody.
IN CONCLUSION
Sigils are powerful representations of energy that empower us to choose each action to embody this energetic shift. The beauty of working with sigils is that it is intuitive; there is no right or wrong way to work with sigils, and only you know what feels most empowering and aligned for you.
